About the ThinkFest

Lien Centre for Social Innovation invites you to ThinkFest, for the release of Social Space 2010, the third issue of our professional magazine for community leaders, social thinkers and practitioners. This will be followed by the launch of our new book, The World that Changes the World, a mapping of the social ecosystem in 21 chapters.

For this year’s ThinkFest, we warmly invite you to join leading minds from the business and nonprofit sectors for what promises to be an exciting discussion. We ask our speakers to consider how we can develop a more empowered, liberal and creative civil society sector and citizenry to plant the seed of social innovation.

About the Speakers

Geoff Mulgan, Director, Young Foundation

Geoff is director of the Young Foundation. Between 1997 and 2004 he worked in the UK Prime Minister’s office and Cabinet Office and before that was the founding director of the think tank Demos.

He is a Visiting Professor at LSE, UCL, Melbourne University and the China Executive Leadership Academy . He also works as a part-time adviser to Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in Australia . His latest book is The Art of Public Strategy: Mobilising Power and Knowledge for the Common Good.

Claire Chiang, Chairperson, Banyan Tree Global Foundation

Claire is Senior Vice President of Banyan Tree Holdings Ltd and Chairperson of Banyan Tree Global Foundation. Her role involves directing and guiding the continual process of Banyan Tree Holding’s overall commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility. She also sits on the Global Governing Board of Caux Round Table , where she is Vice-Chair for Asia.

Yong Teck Meng, National Director, Habitat for Humanity Singapore

Teck Meng is the National Director of Habitat for Humanity Singapore, part of the international Christian charity focusing on poverty-housing elimination. Mr Yong was the founder-Chairman of Habitat Singapore and took on a full-time role in response to the Tsunami disaster. He led his team to complete 1,800 houses in Meulaboh, Indonesia. Habitat Singapore has been involved in low cost housing projects in Indonesia, Cambodia, China, Vietnam, and many other countries.

Runa Khan, Executive Director, Friendship

Runa is the Executive Director of Friendship, a value-based organisation, which identifies and reaches the poorest of the poor and the most marginalised communities in Bangladesh. She is an Ashoka Fellow and a 2006 Rolex Awards Associate Laureate, which she received for her work towards preserving the cultural heritage of Bangladeshi boat-building.

Laurence Lien, CEO, National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre

Laurence is the Chief Executive Officer of the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre. Laurence previously served in the Singapore Administrative Service, rotating through different positions in the Ministries of Finance, Community Development and Sports, Home Affairs and Education. Laurence is Chairman of the Lien Foundation, Deputy Chairman of Lien Aid, board member of the Lien Centre for Social Innovation at SMU and board member of Caritas Singapore Community Council.
