Selection for the new ECO@COP16 team!

July 5, 2010

ECO is holding an initial selection process for the upcoming youth delegation for the United Nations Climate Change Conference to be held in Cancun, Mexico from 29th November – 10th December 2010. For more information about the conference, click here.

The selection includes an essay contest, and follow up discussions and interactive activities relevant to the various aspects of climate change. These follow up workshops aim to provide a platform for the students and youth today to understand the associated socio-economic issues and the imperative to tackle them with much greater resolve.

Participation will allow youths to contribute ideas which lead to action plans that may be implemented in the future. Ideas generated at the workshops will also act as resources materials for the delegation.

The essay deadline will be on July 23rd 2010. Please note that the contest is open to Singaporeans and Permanent Residents who are 17-25 years of age as of December 1st 2010. The second round of selection will tentatively be held on July 31st and August 1st. Shortlisted candidates will participate during these two days in various activities. Thereafter, the final delegation members will be selected.

All you have to do to is to answer these 2 questions:

1. What hinders Singapore from being more pro-active in tackling
climate change?

2. What changes are required to ensure that a fair, legally-binding
and ambitious international deal emerge as soon as possible?
